A woman has died after her car crashed into another vehicle on the Perimeter Highway Tuesday morning, one of numerous accidents caused by poor weather conditions.
Just after 7:30 a.m., RCMP and emergency services arrived at the scene of the crash on the Perimeter just east of Highway 59.
In an early investigation, RCMP found a 54-year-old woman driving westbound on the Perimeter lost control of her Chevy Cavalier and drove into the path of a pick-up truck. She was transported to hospital and later pronounced dead.
The man in the pick-up truck was sent to hospital with minor injuries.
RCMP are investigating the crash but say road conditions were very icy at the time of the collision. The name of the deceased will not be released, RCMP said.
Icy roads and low visibility also caused numerous other collisions on Manitoba roads Tuesday.
A woman was injured when her van crashed into a tree on Lagimodiere Boulevard near Maginot Street. Emergency crews helped the woman out of the vehicle and took her to hospital.
In a separate crash on the Perimeter near Henderson Highway, a semi truck drove into the ditch and struck a tree. The truck was not carrying a trailer at the time, and RCMP say the driver was not injured in the accident.
Elsewhere two vehicles collided near the Perimeter Highway and Wenzel Street. RCMP and emergency services were at the scene of the accident and around 8:30 a.m. Feb. 21 asked drivers to plan alternate routes, due to delays in the area.
RCMP have not released additional details about the crash but are asking that motorists drive carefully.
A school bus and an SUV also collided around 9 a.m. on Feb. 21.
Stonewall RCMP and local emergency crews were called to the crash involving an East Interlake School Division bus and an SUV at the intersection of Meridian Road and Road 76.5N in the RM of Rosser.
The bus did not have children on it at the time of the collision.
The bus was heading north on Meridian Road when it collided with a westbound SUV, said RCMP.
The drivers of both vehicles were sent to hospital for treatment.
The extent of their injuries remains unknown, said RCMP. Officers reported road conditions were slippery in the area at the time.
