Despite late Kessel goal, Leafs lose to Devils 4-3 in OT

TORONTO — Mark Fayne scored 1:18 into overtime as the New Jersey Devils beat the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-3 on Tuesday.

Fayne's weak shot from the point found its way through Leafs goalie Jonas Gustavsson.

Petr Sykora had a goal and an assist for New Jersey (34-20-4), while David Clarkson and former Leafs forward Alexei Ponikarovsky also scored.

Phil Kessel's 31st goal of the season forced overtime for Toronto (29-24-6) with 44 seconds left in the third period. Tim Connolly scored in the first period, while Clarke MacArthur had a goal in the second.

Martin Brodeur made 29 saves for the win, while Gustavsson stopped 28 for the Leafs.

The Devils have now won four games in a row.
