The city was defrauded of $939,000 last year, including several cases involving employees, according to a new report from city hall's auditor general.

Jeff Griffiths' report, made public Tuesday, stated that there were hundreds of complaints probed.

Of the complaints filed, 53 were substantiated by Griffiths' official audit.

Several employees were questioned during the investigation, and officials found many cases of abuse during their probe.

In one case, a city employee received kickbacks for approving fraudulent invoices from a contractor worth $675,000.

In other instances, several employees worked other jobs during their regularly scheduled time.

The report also described the actions of a worker who claimed 11 sick days to plan a personal event.

Responding to the report, the city stated that the employees in question have either been fired or disciplined.
