Calgary Flames defenceman Chris Butler is expected to miss three weeks with a left thigh laceration that he sustained on Tuesday night against the Edmonton Oilers.

The Flames announced the injury on Wednesday.

Butler was hurt when he crashed into his own net while trying to break up a two-on-one rush by the Oilers. He fell awkwardly on his leg and had to be helped off the ice.

The 25-year-old has two goals and 11 assists in 60 games for Calgary this season. He is in his first season with the Flames after being acquired from the Buffalo Sabres last June.
