No ad hoc aid for Sask. farmers coming in 2012

The federal and Saskatchewan governments say there will be no ad hoc programs for weather-related agriculture disasters this year.

The change was announced as the province's 2012 crop insurance program was outlined.

Coverage levels are increasing to a record high of $174 an acre -- up $1 from last year.

Another change is that producers will have the option to supplement the benefit for unseeded acreage by purchasing additional coverage.

Saskatchewan Agriculture Minister Bob Bjornerud says there won't be any payments for weather disasters because this year's program provides more options to farmers.

Bjornerud says the changes won't force producers to buy insurance if they don't want to.
