Children's museum one step closer to moving to Mendel

The Children's Discovery Museum is one step closer to moving into the Mendel Art Gallery building on Spadina Cres.
The City of Saskatoon issued a Memorandum of Understanding Wednesday, which allows the museum to go ahead and put together a detailed business plan.
The city says the MOU is a vote of confidence in the museum, and its move.
Museum officials say the move from their Market Mall location to the Mendel building will be quick, as very few renovations need to be done. They are confident they will be able to bring in enough revenue to keep up with the larger space.
"In terms of the cost, we're actually very confident. We have the example of hundreds of children's museums around the world, and we have all of their numbers for those facilities. We understand very well what we're planning here. We also have the example of places that are similar but closer to home, like the Science Centre in Regina," says Dr. Erica Bird, the president of the board of directors at the museum.
Throughout the move and transition, the city will continue to own and operate the conservatory adjacent to the Mendel building. It will be open to the public at no charge.
