MONTREAL — Brandon Lemieux, 22, testified by video-conference at the Chateauguay police station Tuesday to respond to four charges, involving dangerous driving and criminal negligence.

He will remain behind bars until Thursday when he goes to Valleyfield courthouse to ask to be released until the charges are processed.

The charges stem from an incident Monday in which a woman of 41 died and her 13-year-old son critically injured following a two-vehicle accident in Mercier.

The accident occurred at about 12:45 p.m. Monday when a car stopped in the middle lane near 526 St-Jean Baptiste Blvd, Highway 138.

A fast-moving car entered the lane and hit the vehicle.

The mother was transported to Anna-Laberge Hospital where she was declared dead.

The son was brought to hospital in Montreal and medics fear for his life.

The other driver, a 22-year-old man, was transported from the scene with serious injuries. Alcohol was not a factor.

Mercier is a South Shore town of about 10,000 approximately 34 kilometers southwest of downtown Montreal.

Police are investigating and would like any eyewitnesses to come forward by phoning Detective Sergeant Leclerc at 450-698-3867.
