    Headline-making antics: The actor said he has been addicted to drugs since the age of eight after his drug-addict father started giving them to him. From 1996 to 2001, Downey Jr. was arrested a number of times on charges related to cocaine, heroine, and marijuana.

    Redeeming behaviour: The 'Iron Man' actor said his wake up call came during his last 2001 arrest, where he realized he desperately needed to seek help. Since then he's made a major movie comeback with leading roles -- one of which garnered him an Oscar nomination.

  • Former bad girl: Nicole Richie

    Headline-making antics: Richie has made headlines for just about anything, including her partying, her weight, her on-and-off friendship with Paris Hilton, and, of course, her legal issues. In 2006, she was arrested and charged with driving under the influence. She was sentenced to four days in jail, but only served 82 minutes of her sentence due to 'overcrowding.'

  • Former bad girl: Nicole Richie

    Redeeming behaviour: Becoming a mother seems to have calmed this former wild child. She now has two children with husband Joel Madden, and the couple also started a charity and works with UNICEF.

    Headline-making antics: The Irish actor made headlines for partying hard and dating a string of A-list celebrities. In 2005 he checked himself into a rehabilitation centre for addictions to drugs and painkillers. In 2006, he filed a lawsuit against a former girlfriend over a 14-minute sex tape.

    Redeeming behaviour: Farrell appears to have left his bad boy image behind and has since focused on making movies.

  • Former bad girl: Britney Spears

    Headline-making antics: Right around the time Spears shaved her head, the seemingly perfect pop princess' life unraveled on the world stage. Her erratic behaviour ranged from donning a British accent in public to alleged drug abuse. She lost custody of her kids, and eventually the court placed her under temporary conservatorship of her father.

    Redeeming behaviour: Spears' career comeback kicked off with a guest appearance on 'How I Met Your Mother' in 2008. Since then, she has released two albums, both of which went on to win her multiple accolades and awards.
