Sheila Nabb's family has said that the 37-year-old has been released from a Calgary hospital, and is now being cared for by family members.

Nabb was badly beaten at Mexican resort in January and has been in hospital ever since.

Her family released a statement Tuesday:

"[Sheila] still has a lengthy recovery as well as most likely other surgeries in her future. She and her family remain positive in the outcome of this process as she has been receiving excellent care since she has been back in Calgary. Sheila is also aware of the tremendous support she and our family have received and it warms her heart."

Mexican authorities say Nabb was alone in an elevator at the five-star hotel where she was staying with her husband when she was attacked.

The brutal beating left every bone in Nabb's face fractured. She has since undergone multiple reconstructive surgeries to repair the damage.

Police in Mexico have charged a man in connection to the incident. Jose Ramon Acosta Quintero faces one count of attempted murder and is in police custody.
