There was a delay in the court case for a man facing charges of attempted murder in connection with the shootings of two RCMP constables.

Sawyer Clarke Robison was expected to make his first court appearance in connection with the case Tuesday morning, but he didn't appear, nor did his lawyer, Brian Baresh.

A law student, who acted on Robison's behalf, attempted to elect a judge and jury trial instead of judge alone. But the Crown argued that can only be done if the accused or his actual lawyer is present in court.

It was about two weeks ago RCMP Constables Sheldon Shah and Sidney Gaudette were executing a search warrant on a property near Killam, Alta. when shots were fired, leaving the two officers wounded.

Police believe Robison, 27, fled in a black pickup after the altercation with police.

The incident also left Robison's uncle, Brad Clarke dead.

Robison's vehicle was eventually found partially hidden among some other vehicles and farm equipment on a rural property approximately 10 kilometres southeast of Killam.

Robison was arrested at a rural area southeast of Edmonton without incident days later after family members made a plea for Robison to turn himself in.

It's expected both Robison and his lawyer will attend court April third, to again try to elect for a judge and jury trial and to seek bail.

At least 20 officers are still working on this investigation and the Crown says there may still be more charges before the case goes to trial.
