The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) seized a large cache of firearms and weapons on Tuesday at the Coutts border crossing in southern Alberta.

CBSA officers seized 75 firearms, including 48 handguns, one blowgun, one pistol crossbow and 12 high capacity magazines.

The border agency says four of the handguns were loaded and that this is the largest handgun seizure in the history of the port of Coutts.

The seizure happened on February 21, 2012, when a Florida resident arrived at the port of Coutts, on his way to Alaska.

The man said he did not have any firearms when CBSA officers inquired.

The officers did a secondary examination of the man's vehicle and found the guns and accessories hidden inside his pickup truck.

"This seizure demonstrates the commitment CBSA officers have in making sure our borders aren't used for illegal activity," said Lauren D. Delgaty, Regional Director General, CBSA Prairie Region. "Our firearms laws are clear and these enforcement actions help keep Canada's communities safe and secure."

George Foster, 54, was arrested and turned over to the RCMP.

Foster is facing ten charges, but may have additional charges added as the investigation progresses.

Foster will appear in court in Lethbridge on February 23.
