A 27-year-old Chilean worker has been killed in Banff after he was struck by a CP Rail train on the edge of town.
The man was living and working in Banff and was walking westbound on the tracks at about 4:30 p.m on Tuesday.
The man has been identified as Eduardo Godoy.
Godoy apparently didn't hear the train coming despite the numerous attempts to get his attention.
Investigators say the Godoy was wearing headphones at the time and may have been distracted.
"It does appear he had some ear phones either listening to music or what have you and did not hear the repeated whistle blasts from the train," said RCMP Cpl. Chris Kosack.
Godoy was struck on the tracks about a kilometre east of the Buffalo Street crossing and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials say that the tragic event serves as a reminder about the importance of being aware of your surroundings.
