Former NHL star Theo Fleury says he felt lost, alone and helpless when he was being abused by former coach Graham James.

A victim impact statement from Fleury has been submitted at the sentencing hearing in Winnipeg for James.

The former coach pleaded guilty in December to sexually assaulting Fleury and another former player between 1989 and 1994.

The name of the second victim -- Todd Holt -- had been under a court-ordered publication ban, but that was lifted today.

In his statement, Fleury estimates he was assaulted about 150 times and was warned that he would lose his shot at a hockey career if he did not accept it.

Reading the statement earlier this morning in Vancouver, Fleury called James a "monster" and urged the court to impose a harsh sentence.

Crown Attorney Colleen McDuff outlined the trips James took with Fleury and how he convinced the teen to come to his apartment so James could tutor him.

Staying the night became a requirement.

She told the court lesser forms of sex assault eventually grew into more serious abuse as Fleury grew exhausted from fighting James off.

McDuff called it predatory and thought-out behaviour.

James was previously convicted of abusing other players, including one-time NHL'er Sheldon Kennedy, and spent three-and-a-half years in jail.

Kennedy, passed James in the hall outside the courtroom before the hearing began.

He said it was weird seeing his former junior coach and abuser after 14 years.
