A man whose body was discovered Sunday morning in a muddy Abbotsford field appears to have met with foul play, according to Integrated Homicide Investigation Team members handling the case.
The victim, believed to be in his 20s, has not been identified, and Sgt. Jennifer Pound said it's too soon to speculate on the circumstances leading up to his death.
"It is too early to say whether this is gang-related or a targeted killing. At this point the priority is to identify the deceased and confirm the cause of death so as to move the investigation forward," Pound said Monday in a statement.
Police hope an autopsy scheduled for Monday will help shed light on the case, Pound added.
The body was initially reported to Abbotsford police at around 9:30 a.m. Sunday by a man who spotted it while driving in the 33600-block of Farmer Road.
Officers arrived to find the deceased lying about 10 metres from the shoulder on muddy agricultural land.
IHIT is asking anyone with information about the apparent homicide to call their tip line at 1-877-551-IHIT or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
